By Coastal Journal | Inspired by "A Few Good Men"

"You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth."

That line, delivered with explosive conviction by Colonel Nathan Jessup in A Few Good Men, echoes louder than ever in May 2025. Because here we are—staring down one of the largest federal spending bills in U.S. history—and it’s not wartime. It’s not a recession. It’s not a national emergency.

And it’s not coming from a progressive president promising to transform the social safety net.

It’s coming from Donald J. Trump—the man who once campaigned on fiscal discipline, pledged to slash the debt, and promised to drain the swamp.

Instead, he’s delivering what his allies are calling “The One Big Beautiful Bill.”

But when you look past the slogans, you realize something else entirely: This bill isn’t built for Main Street. It’s built for Wall Street.

Behind the patriotic branding is a bill so bloated, so structurally tilted toward the wealthy, that it makes Biden’s Green New Deal look like penny-pinching. The difference? Biden’s packages at least gave Americans something: $1,000 stimulus checks, $7,500 EV credits, subsidies for solar panels—direct benefits that showed up in household budgets. This? It’s tax cuts for the elites, new carveouts for high-income investors, and corporate giveaways dressed in red, white, and blue.

And here’s the kicker: as of now, there’s no meaningful repeal or rollback of Biden’s Green New Deal spending either. The subsidies for solar, EVs, and climate tech remain fully intact. So we’re not swapping one spending agenda for another—we’re simply stacking new trillions on top of the old.

Let’s tell the truth—because Americans are ready for it.

Trump’s bill proposes trillions in spending. But not on you. Not on the average American family. Not on affordable housing, student debt relief, or middle-class tax support. Instead, it boosts border enforcement budgets, greenlights a defense spending surge, and breathes new life into corporate tax loopholes. There are no checks coming to your mailbox this time. There are no credits for your kids. No breaks on your rent. No help with that 7% mortgage.

The illusion of tax cuts for the middle class are nothing more than extending the 2017 tax cuts, which Trump wants to make them permanent (is a good thing but nothing new). That sounds good until you realize the bulk of those savings go to the top 1%, while inflation quietly erases any gains for everyone else.

You're told the bill is about growth, about restoring American greatness. But just like in A Few Good Men, what sounds like honor and duty is actually a carefully orchestrated cover-up. In this case, the truth isn’t hidden behind military orders—it’s buried inside legislative fine print.

Before we get to the part of the bill that could cause real economic pain—the kind that destroys purchasing power and shrinks your ability to own a home or retire—we need to pause.

At Coastal Journal, we dig deeper. We don’t just regurgitate headlines; we dissect what’s under the hood. And what we found in this bill should alarm anyone who isn’t considered the Upper Class.
